Interview

Today the interview went GREAT. We knew beforehand that there are only three spots open and five girls were interviewing officially but since I came that meant six of us were there. I had my very first group interview today. That was odd to say the least. We were all really nervous at first because none of us had done a group interview before but as time went on most of us loosened up a bit. Me and Faith were both fabulous during the group part. After the group interview she made us all go out to the waiting area and she called us each back one by one. Faith went in before me and when she came out she didn't say much and then it was my turn. Well, the lady loved us and we both have a second interview. I have my second interview tomorrow at 3:30 and possibly even start working this weekend. Faith's second interview will be set up sometime soon. The only reason why mine is sooner is because they are wanting to hire me for a clerical position and they need to fill that spot asap. Faith would rather work as the lady who helps you find your dress- and I think she would be perfect at that. She helped dress me for my interview today ;)

Anyway, wish me luck tomorrow. Say a little prayer for me and her both!

Life is Good- God Answers Prayers

So, most people right now would be talking about the struggles of settling in to college life, being homesick, having a hard time making friends, the list goes on… I am so happy to feel like I have finally found my place. Of course I miss home every now and then, especially when nobody is home and I am in this big suite all by myself. I just think of what I would be doing back home… terrorizing mom, scheming up things with Paul, and of course playing with my lovely kitty, Kitty. I usually get over it and move on to the next thing in my big college life schedule.

I know I have not updated in a while so here is a short summary of how my job search has gone. I applied online to 9 different Chili's positions and I am being considered for 3 of them which is pretty great since I have absolutely no experience in waitressing. I attended a job fair this week which was strictly for jobs pertaining to events at UTA. I would be working at volleyball and basketball games, concerts, conferences, theatrical productions, comedians, any thing that consists of entertainment here at UTA. This job would be AMAZING. I was the first person to show up to the job fair and just about the only person who actually dressed up nice and brought a resume. I felt so confident walking up in there. I spoke with the man over the job fair and he LOVED me. I was the only person there he gave his card to, so that I could be in contact with him. I sent him an email that night when I got home thanking him for taking time to host the job fair and it was good meeting him and a few other nice things. He responded back to my email saying he was so glad I came to the job fair and it was nice meeting me. He then said he would be contacting me soon to schedule 1 on 1 interviews. I was so excited when I read that. So, I should be hearing about an interview time soon for that.
Then today while I was home Faith text me and asked me my school schedule for tomorrow which was completely random so then when we went to lunch she told me that she had an interview at Davids Bridal tomorrow and that they told her to bring someone with her who would be interested in working there to the interview and we could all do a group interview. She said that when she talked to them they were also veryyyy flexible with hours and would be easy to work around our school schedule with. So, we are going out tonight to buy slacks and dress clothes to look all spiffy for our interview tomorrow. Our interview is at 4:30. That is a pretty good friend to consider me out of all of the people she could have brought to the interview. Especially since she is from the Dallas area and knows a few other people that goes to UTA.

I know for a fact God brought her into my life. It is a good thing knowing God and having Him on your side. God answers prayers.

Official College Student

So, I had my first official late night as a college student. If any of you know me at all you know what a milestone it is. Me and my friend Faith and another new girl (I cannot for the life of me remember her name) made a Wal Mart and Taco Bell run. We spent nearly 2 hours in Wal Mart. The Wal Mart here is in an old Johnson&Johnson warehouse so it is HUGE. Just to put it into perspective when Dylan came to visit me yesterday I pointed out where things were as he drove us to lunch and I mistook Wal Mart for the Mall. That is how big it is. That will take some major getting used too. I didn't get much at Wal Mart. A few air fresheners because my living room still smells odd. I got an extra air freshener for my room so one can go in my closet. I got a swiffer and started pack for only $10 and I got a UTA shirt for $9. It looks like the same shirt you can get on campus that is $29. I didn't get home until 1am and I didn't go to bed until 3am. Unfortunately I picked the night before classes start, but it has been okay I managed well. My first class for today was at 9:30 am. It was Developmental Psychology. It is in a lecture hall with stadium seating and we have 205 students in the class. This is a whole lot different than NTCC where the room was just like my high school classes and held an average of 25 students. I LOVEEEE my professor. She is British so she is fabulous to just sit and listen to. She is probably about 35 and understands that her class isn't the only important thing in the world. I am so glad I signed up to take it with her. She will be fun. On our first day in there she already cracked many jokes and even swore a few times. She told us we had to warn her if we were going to bring our kids to class so she would tone down her swear words. She is a doll. My next class isn't until 7pm so I am going to take a nap eventually and me and my roomate are actually going to do lunch today so that should be fun. We are meeting up with Faith and the new girl later. It is pretty cool to walk around and already have people call my name and wave or just recognize people in general. I definitely didn't expect to feel this comfortable this fast.

BTW: Mom, I keep forgetting to tell you. I realized now why that candle thing was only .39, I opened it up to set it out and that sh*t went EVERYWHERE! It was ground up into a fine powder and was not a solid block at all like it was supposed to be. I spent a good amount of time on my hands and knees with my tiny handheld duster broom sweeping it up and I am still finding some everywhereeeee.

Address

So, I went to get my PO BOX today. I was expecting for it to cost me, but it ended up being free which was cool. I have two separate addresses. One address is my actual PO Box for if you want to send letters or cards or small things and the other address is for shipping things like boxes, care packages, big things. They will just put a slip in my Box and I will have to go to the counter to pick up my boxes. Simple as that.

I slept WONDERFUL last night. You would think going from a Queen size bed to a Twin XL would alter my sleeping, but it didn't I slept so good. My padding on my bed felt amazing too. My room stayed cool and dark and I slept like a baby. I woke up one time to go pee and had to make the ten foot climb back into bed, but that is my only complaint. Today has been a yucky rainy day so I haven't done much. I spent a lot of time in my room this morning getting my OCD on :) I want everything to look perfect. Last night I went to a meet and greet at my dorm. They served us nachos, played music, and had volleyball games going. I met quite a few new people. I think I have already made a pretty good friend. She is in a double room and her roomate never showed up so she is in that room all by herself. and one of my roomates never showed up so we have an empty room too and she is going to check into getting in it. Me and her are meeting up tonight to go to something called Wafflepolosa which means they are giving us free waffles with ice cream on top. Good 'ol college diet. :) She is also a nursing major and a sophomore like me so we actually have a lot in common the only unfortunate thing is we do not have any of the same classes... we will have to fix that next semester. My roomate and me haven't really hung out or talk much. She is 17 and pretty wrapped up in her boyfriend... she is a sweet girl though. I don't have any complaints other than I would rather get to know her then spend time venturing around all by myself. Oh well, I know that it will all work out. :)

I found my laundry room today. It is nice with nice washers and dryers. This whole time I have been wondering if I was going to have to stand there and watch my laundry the whole time to make sure nobody steals it or if there was some way to lock it but I found out today that I have to scan my id card to put my clothes in a washer and i have to scan it again to get them out. So that is pretty cool and even if I happened to forget them in  there for a couple of days (not that I would) but there would be no way for anybody to steal them. Makes me feel better.

I thought I started class Wednesday but it turns out I do not start until Thursday so I still have one more day to find all off my classes. I hope it isn't rainy and yucky out tomorrow. Oh well, it makes for good sleeping! :)

Home away from home

Today me and mom left out from the hotel by 7:00am and we were at UTA and in line to check in at my dorm by 8:10. Check in didn't start until 8:30 so we were really close to the beginning of the line. Before I could move any stuff into my room I had to do an inventory checklist and write down every single thing that is wrong with my room so that I don't get charged for it on move out day. Luckily all my room has is a few dings, scratches, and thumb tack holes. After we got all that done the mayhem began. Bringing all 9000 boxes from my car which is a little ways from my dorm and getting it up to the third floor all while moving around about 900 other students and parents who are doing the same thing. Here are some before and after pictures. The pictures really don't do it justice...

My Door

My Shelves that are built in to the wall

My bed that is about 100 feet off the ground and nearly impossible to CLIMB into

My Desk and Drawers/ Entertainment center

For those of you who have asked I am going to get my PO BOX set up tomorrow and I will post my address as soon as I have it. I am also going to go look around and find where my classes are so I won't be completely lost when classes start- which is on Wednesday for me :( Mom and Paul, I love y'all both so much. Thank you so much for helping getting my room set up and furnished and going with me to get my books and parking sticker. Y'all made today that much better. Goodnight! :)

Bittersweet

Today is kind of bittersweet. It is my last day at home and my last night to sleep in my big comfy bed in my big comfy room. I am so excited for what my future has in store for me and everything that I am going to experience that I couldn't experience here, but it is also kind of hard to know that I am leaving everything that I know and everyone that I love. At least I will only be two hours away... that isn't so bad. My mom is cooking me chicken fried deer steak tonight (YUM) and my nanny and papaw are coming to visit before I leave so tonight should be fun. I will be posting pictures sometime soon on how full my car is.... crazy what that little thing will hold. :)

Packing, Packing, Packing

I don't think we realize how much stuff we have until we are forced to move into a room that is less than half the size of the room I am in now. The same goes for clothes in my closet. My goodness! 5 more days :)

Also, I found this today on facebook. It is from the sprinter from Brazil I believe. He is the first "handicapped" man to run in the olympics against all able bodied runners. This is what he said.
