Tanner Higgins

Growing up when I attended Lake Fork Baptist Church, my parents and I became friends with another family in the church. They had a daughter that was a year and a half older than I was so we were always in the same groups and Sunday School classes. It had ben a long time since I had seen Shelby, but once I started dating Dylan I found out that Shelby and Dylan's sister were best friends... small world. Anyway, through Morgan I had somewhat kept in touch with Shelby and was friends with her on Facebook so I knew a little bit about what was going on in her life. Just 6 short months ago Shelby married Tanner Higgins, he was a member of the US Army and so him and Shelby now lived somewhere out of state on base. He had been deployed to Afghanistan twice already and so this third time was no different. Tanner was one of the youngest members to become apart of the Elite Army Rangers and even became one of the leaders. Sadly, while leading his team through a night walk of the streets at 1:30 a.m. Tanner suffered many gun-shot wounds from enemy fire and later died of related injures. Being married to a soldier, you know the consequences and you know the sacrifices that come along with it, but nothing can prepare you for the news that Shelby who is only 20, lost her husband of only 6 months fighting for his country. I could not imagine being this young and knowing that I had already lost my first husband, my best friend. My heart hurts for Shelby and Tanner's family. Like I said- you know the consequences, but nothing quite prepares you for them. I simply could not imagine.

Here is a link to the video that was on the news last night- in case you missed it. It is an interview with his dad and grandparents. Sad. Sad. Sad Click Here
